Northrop Grumman IT performs research on the GIDEP alerts for the Space and C3I Sustainment Group of the 84th Combat Sustainment Wing (previously OO-ALC).
We have used the GIDEP batch email notices and weekly downloads from the GIDEP website to check the affects of industry’s discontinuation of parts on 84th SCSG’s systems.
In FY 2003, we analyzed 82 parts for a cost avoidance of over $5.4 million, and won the GIDEP Award for the U.S. Air Force.
Also in that year, we notified the Air Force that a transistor for one of their systems was going obsolete and suggested a LOTB, based on information from a GIDEP alert. The Air Force purchased the items and prevented a DMSMS cost of $514,000. Since the start of our program in 2002, we have researched 443 alerts for a total of over $11.6 million in cost avoidance.
