GIDEP Document Types

Following are the Documents Types available from the GIDEP database:

ALERT (AL)
Report problems with parts, components, materials, specifications, test equipment, or manufacturing processes that can cause a functional failure. These documents requires notification of manufacturer prior to publication.
ANALYTICAL METROLOGY (AM)
Includes the following : Decision models for metrology and calibration programs; analysis of single sided tolerance testing; general methodology for comparing instruments; test and measurement equipment evaluation reports; and instructional information, mainly for the metrology technician engaged in the calibration of a variety of test and measuring equipment, on the maintenance of various standards. Also include reports, experiments, and theory associated with measurement statistics, measurement analysis, measurement error prediction, or the theory and design of experiments. Technical Note documents providing the results of investigations into various measurement subject areas and/or methods (e.g. Frequency Span Accuracy Test for Spectrum Analyzer), general information on equipment use or maintenance, or standard requirements for various test and monitoring equipment.
AGENCY ACTION NOTICE (AN)
Redistributes problem or general information issued by a government agency. These notices may have a Limited Distribution to government agencies only.
CALIBRATION PROCEDURE (CP)
A detailed procedure for the periodic verification of performance of test, diagnostic, and measurement equipment. A calibration procedure may be a paper copy or on electronic media.
CALIBRATION TECHNIQUES (CT)
Include instrument calibration techniques on providing generic instructions for calibrating mainly physical/mechanical test instruments with a particular standard.
Also include fabrication instructions providing assembly, design, construction, modification and/or upgrading information on specific calibration fixtures, e.g. a document describing an Outside Micrometer Linearity Calibration Fixture design.
COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY DOCUMENTS (CTD)
Computer-Aided Acquisition Logistics (CALS): Journals and technical documents provide information on the integration of digital technical information into the design, manufacture, support, and procurement of products and services.
Calibration software: Calibration procedures reference data and/or program source code for an automatic calibration procedure which are executed by automated calibration equipment controllers, such as the Fluke 17-20A/AP or 1722A/AP Instrument Controllers.
Reliability-Maintainability software: Documents that show the techniques and algorithms that a reliability analysis software uses to predict reliability and maintainability.
Other computer related documents: General documents on computer software or hardware. These include qualification or design. Such topics are computer aided design, computer algorithms, computer code, integrated manufacturing, computer interfaces, network, procurement, computer program, computer resources, computer science, computer simulation, and system.
DIMINISHING MANUFACTURING SOURCES (DS)
A notice by the manufacturers that they are discontinuing production of a part, component or material, sold as a single item. The DMSMS Notice is also used to supplement the original notice of potential solutions. These supplemental notices are assigned as amendments to the original notices to maintain continuity.
Also include notices of discontinuation for test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment, which are metrology-related data.
ENGINEERING REPORTS (ER)
Include conceptual design studies, development research papers, or technical studies, theoretical papers and practical applications of engineering techniques developed by private companies and government institutions covering all engineering disciplines. Such topics are parts and components applications, environmental studies or simulation, composites, alloys, energy (solar, nuclear, cogeneration, electrical, waste, hydrogeneration, and recycling), safety engineering, thermodynamics, mathematics, physics, chemistry, fluid mechanics, aerospace and space including aerodynamics, aeronautics, and astrophysics.
FAILURE ANALYSIS (FA)
Contain failure analysis report information and failure analysis summary information as received under contract Data Item Description (DID) items.
Also includes reports that identify conditions under which a test instrument cannot perform satisfactorily and reports on calibration mode failure analysis.
FACILITIES DOCUMENTS (FD)
Include facility requirements for standards laboratories or similar facilities. FD combines requirements, selection, design, layout, implementation, environmental controls, management, responsibilities, analysis or specifications.
GIDEP SPECIFIC DOCUMENTS (GSD)
Include the computer access manual, policies and procedures manuals, GIDEP charter, representatives handbook, index of reports, GIDEP implementation reports, and GIDEP utilization reports.
LESSONS LEARNED (LL)
A "good work practice" or innovative approach that is captured and shared to promote repeat application. A lesson learned may also be an adverse work practice or experience that is captured and shared to avoid recurrence. (a.) LL's may be submitted by participating government or industry activities. (b.) A general outline of a LL should include: 1) a description of the situation which lead to the lesson learned report, and 2) a suggested local approach to preclude future occurrences of the event which lead to the lesson learned.
MANAGEMENT REPORTS (MR)
Pertain to any management-related documents on human resources, workload, program plans and guides, construction, safety, and total quality management practices, techniques, guidelines. Also include documents on cost studies/life cycle costs, design analysis and decision techniques, engineering practices, and lessons learned.
MEASUREMENT REQUIREMENTS DOCUMENTS (MD)
Includes calibration recall intervals.
Also includes calibration requirements providing technical guidance to achieve uniformity and consistency in the designation of calibration requirements. They cover test requirements for selected generic classes of test and monitoring systems. They apply guidelines that provide the following data: (a) listing of required test parameters, (b) rationale for performing tests, (c) choice of test points, (d) guidance for combination and sequence of tests to minimize testing time, and (e) functional check information.
Measurement Requirements documents prepared by Government Agencies for use by personnel concerned with Metrology and Calibration Programs. These are reference documents intended for use to determine approved calibration procedures, authorized calibration intervals, and related technical data applicable to Test and Monitoring Systems, and standards.
Technical Requirements documents providing policies, rationale, and guidelines concerning technical elements of a metrology and calibration program. These documents provide a baseline for technical decisions to be applied to the analysis of calibration requirements, determination of calibration approaches, selection and application of calibration equipment, preparation and review of calibration procedures, calibration interval analysis, and related calibration support requirements for test and monitoring systems.
MEASUREMENT SCIENCE (MS)
Contains documents on measurement science which include bibliographies, and metrology data not otherwise identified by specific document type or subject matter.
MEASUREMENT TRAINING (MT)
Documents used to teach/instruct in the use of or the calibration of a variety of equipment including documents providing guidelines for establishment of a Local Calibration Program; i.e. NA17-35QAL-2, Physical Measurements Training Manual; NA17-QAL-9, Dimensional Measurements Training Manual; and NA17-35QAL-13, U.S. Navy Metrology and Calibration Indoctrination. Training aids including but not limited to hard copies of presentation material.
NONSTANDARD PARTS DOCUMENTS (NP)
Contain completed Nonstandard Parts Approval Requests (DD Form 2052 or equivalent), supporting justification including test reports which will be found under TR, and non developmental item specifications, not designated PS.
PROBLEM ADVISORY (PA)
Report (1) preliminary information on a suspected problem, or (2) a problem with parts, components, materials, manufacturing processes, specification on test equipment that has an unknown or low probability of causing a functional failure. Also report preliminary information on a suspected problem, or a problem with test equipment.
All these documents require notification of the manufacturer prior to publication.
PRODUCT CHANGE NOTICE (PC)
A notice that a manufacturer (or government activity) has received approval to change the Class 1 characteristics of a part or component or material, as defined in MIL-STD-480, for parts controlled by government specifications. In the case of commercial off-the-shelf parts, the manufacturer may issue a product change notice without prior government coordination, unless specifically restricted by contractual instruments. Also include notices of approved change for test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment, which are metrology-related data.
PRODUCT INFORMATION NOTICE (PN)
A notice that the manufacturer has released a new product which may be an alternative or upgrade to an existing design, or an entirely new product line.
PROCESS SPECIFICATIONS (PS)
Contain procedures on environmental simulation, manufacturing, process, and repair. Also include nonmilitary procurements specifications including parts specifications, test procedures, process control and parts application, process and material specifications. and source control drawings and specifications.
RELIABILITY-MAINTAINABILITY METHODOLOGY (RM)
Describe the methods on "how to" reliability-maintainability. They include demonstration plans, failure mode, effects and criticality analysis, fault tree analysis, growth plans, guides, improvement warranty studies, improvement plans, logistic support studies on systems and equipment, mathematical models, prediction techniques, program plans, R&M data collection procedures, R&M training manuals, shelf-life (dormancy data studies), spares/provisioning studies, testability analysis, and testability demonstration studies.
RELIABILITY-MAINTAINABILITY PREDICTION (RP)
Include studies and reports on predicted statistics on the life of parts, components, assemblies, systems and equipment.
RELIABILITY-MAINTAINABILITY STATISTICS (RS)
Reliability statistics on parts, components, assemblies, equipment, and systems. The statistics provided are from: Accelerated laboratory life tests, field failure and replacement rate data, maintainability demonstration tests, Final, annual or semi-annual R&M status reports, and maintainability tests. The items that can be found include electronic, electrical, electro-mechanical hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical items.
SAFE-ALERT (SA)
Report problems which relate to the safety of personnel or equipment.
All these documents require notification of the manufacturer prior to publication.
SOLDERING TECHNOLOGY LIBRARY (STL)
Include soldering reports on manufacturing processes and methods, process controls and inspection methods, papers and publications, soldering practices and methods, specifications and procedures. These report also are correlated with WS6536E.
TECHNICAL MANUALS (TM)
Provides detailed maintenance, and/or repair, and/or operation instructions. A technical manual may be a paper copy or on electronic media.
TEST REPORTS (TR)
Includes such subject as chemical, engineering evaluation of parts, components and systems, ergonomic, fluid dynamics, qualification and re qualifications, software, thermodynamics, wind tunnel, non destructive test, OEM screening, and software. Within these reports, they consist of procedures, substantive narrative of tests performed and conclusions/results.
Also includes comprehensive tests reports for evaluating the performance of a test instrument for a specific task (comparison of several alternate models to select one best suited for a given application).
URGENT DATA REQUEST (UDR)
A document by which you may query the GIDEP community for information related to problem you have or a part you need or information necessary to shorten time to respond to your customer.
