GIDEP’s role as the manager for DMS issues within DoD has involved it in a number of new initiatives to enhance its ability to help resolve DMS difficulties. One of the things we try to do is become integrated within our memberships business practices or processes.
The Army has taken the initiative to integrate GIDEP into their DMSMS management system as shown within their DMSMS Information System. In keeping with GIDEP’s mission as the DoD central repository for all DMSMS information, GIDEP will be the heart of the Army’s DMSMS Information System. This project is setting up an automated DMSMS notification retrieval and information dissemination system. This system will quickly receive DMSMS part notifications from the GIDEP database, determine Army systems/equipment potentially impacted, and then automatically update the GIDEP system with the projects actually impacted and their reported possible solutions. This information is then shared with the rest of the GIDEP community. GIDEP is also working to support organizations dealing with the aging aircraft issue. The 707 User’s Group is just one of these organizations. They share technical information amongst the numerous services and agencies that still use the 707 aircraft long after commercial airlines have moved to different aircraft. By working with these groups, Defense Supply Center Richmond, and original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s), GIDEP is working to integrate parts information and DMS issues on aging aircraft.
The Defense Logistics Agency sponsors a third initiative that GIDEP is involved in. This is the Shared Data Warehouse, a multi-phased project to enhance and improve the sustainability of DoD weapon systems by reducing the impact of DMS on affected systems. GIDEP’s role within this project is to facilitate a central repository for DMS management vice pockets of information. It would automate workflow processes by allowing for systematic searches conducted in an automated mode of operation. GIDEP would be the single point of entry providing a seamless connectivity to various disparate reference data sources. Finally, it leverages existing information and data resources without replication or relocation.
One of GIDEP’s newer services is our automated parts matching. Through this service, a member organization can submit their parts list and it will be run against the GIDEP database to determine if there are any non-conforming or obsolescent parts reported against it. A report is then returned to the member showing any DMSMS information against their parts list. This automated parts matching can be tailored for the individual member organization and be run one time or on a regular bases as they desire.
